All Work © 2012 Jeff Kandefer / My Daydream Design + Illustration. All Rights Reserved

Here’s a list of questions I frequently get from people. I just thought it might save you an email or two.
Of course, If you have a comment or question that is not listed below feel free to contact me: jeff@mydaydreamdesign.com
Describe your work. What do you specialize in?
I would say the strength of my work is the strong sense of simplified design and color. I do a lot of work that is based on nature, animals, science, technology, science-fiction and anything to do with the arts. I wouldn’t consider myself to be 100% a Graphic Designer or 100% an Illustrator...more like a hybrid of both of those things...an illustrative designer maybe?
With my 10+ years in the design industry I have done a variety of work: Logos/branding, animation, posters, character design, packaging design, illustrations for children’s literature etc. I am always open to take on new projects for different groups, organizations and businesses so contact me if you would like to talk about working on a project together.
I would love to speak with you!
How do you price your work?
Here is the basic formula I use to price jobs. All jobs and clients are different so this does vary from time to time.
I always try to be as up front as possible. I will not charge you for something that you are not aware of.
I like my clients to have an idea of what the project will cost before we are done so there are no surprises.
Up Front Cost: Before we begin a project I ask for 50% of the agreed amount.
Kill Fee: If you decide to kill the project, I have to protect the time I have invested. Usually a percentage of how much of the job has been completed upon termination.
Revision Fee: For a major revision when far along into the agreed direction of a project, I may charge a revision fee.
Of course, I wont charge you to turn a blue box red, but if you decide to make a substantial change late in the game it
may require this fee. It puts a cap on the job that insures that I don't work more on a project that I am getting paid for,
and it helps you and I arrive at a solution faster because the direction of the project is well thought out and planned from the beginning. This has worked out well in the past, and usually this fee rarely rears it's ugly head!
Final Deposit: Due Before Final Artwork is turned over to you. When Final Payment is received I will turn all work
over to you.
Can't I buy a stock logo or illustration for 10 to 100 dollars?
Of course you can! In fact if you have a small budget for your project I may recommend that as an option. Just remember though…you get what you pay for. Most if not all logo services are generated by computer programs, or underpaid people who don't care about your company, who your competition is or your success. Stock illustration may at first look “good enough” but anybody can use it, not just you. If you want something unique to your business, customized with personal care, and something that has been researched to hold up with and exceed what your competitors are doing, you will want to work with an experienced designer. You wont get that for super cheap but what you do pay will be well worth it. A logo serves as the face of your business that you believe in. Think twice before representing it with a 10-100 dollar logo. Your company deserves better!
What can I expect In working with you?
Hard work, research, commitment, communication and passion for the work I do. I love design and illustration. It is not just a job for me, it is and has been a large part of who I am. If I take on a project with you it means that I want to, and I will put my very best into it. I will usually interview you about what direction you want to go in, who your competitors are, company history and so on. This introduces me to your company and helps me get a glimpse into what you expect so
we can execute a solution that excites you.
Can I expect security through a contract?
Absolutely! In fact, I will not begin a project without a contract that we both feel good about. I don't do word of mouth agreements.
What are your Credentials? How long have you been in the business?
I have worked in the graphic design industry for 10+ years as a freelance illustrator/designer and as an in-house designer/animation specialist in the multimedia industry. I have worked with literally hundreds of clients. In that time,
and I have learned so much about what it takes to make people happy with the work I do. If you would like to know
more about my background in the design world please contact me for a copy of my resume.
Do you keep up with modern design trends?
I always try to keep my designs relevant to the times. However, I feel a great designer doesn't create work that is here today gone tomorrow. A truly great design is one that holds up over time and doesn't need to be replaced every 2 to 5 years.
Can I expect updates and good communication from you?
Yes! I pride myself on keeping my clients involved in the work I am doing to make sure they are happy with the progress through the entirety of the project. I will send PDF files periodically to give you an update on my progress, and I will be in contact with anything you would like to discuss.
How do you accept payment?
I will accept checks. Paypal is so convenient but they gouge me with fees, so if you would like to use it I usually will split the fee with you. Whatever works for you we should be able to make happen. For store items I will set up a Paypal link.
Will the work you do for me end up on the My Daydream website?
It might. I always reserve the right to showcase the work I do in my portfolio or to enter the work into design contests/publications. I put that in the terms and conditions section of our contract. I do have a high volume of work, so it may not appear on this site. Of course, if any information in the design is confidential, I would respect the clients wishes not to display it.
Where are you located?
Hamburg, New York which is about 20 minutes from Buffalo.
What do you charge for a logo design?
How big is your company? How many employees do you have? What is the turnaround time? How many versions would you like to see? All these questions need to be asked for me to be able to give you a quote. All companies are different. I have no set cost for logos or any design work...it all varies.
Do you work well with deadlines?
Yes. I will not take a job if I feel I could not deliver it in the time specified to do a great job.
